When I first saw this in my inbox, I was like... whoa.
For one thing, this is a very interesting take on the faerie concept. It is indeed hard to meld the soft, bubbly mood of a faerie with the stark air of Death himself.
Another thing is that I like the choice of the color used. I like to see colors for what they represent, so the combining of purple and green makes me think: green is the color of nature, the domain of the faeries, while purple is the color for sleep and trance, closer to black, which is obviously a symbol for death and oblivion. I guess that the body of a cocoon is very appropriate given the palette used.
The style you created this in also captivated me. It's a very organic style, almost like an oil painting with a slight digital ting to it. Perfect for a book that combines traditional and avant-garde elements.
The only thing I can complain about is that the subject looks a little out of focus compared to the background noise at the bottom. Because of that it's a little hard to tell where he is in the space of the picture.
